About Leta Covington

With over 30 years of experience in education, I bring a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities our school district faces. My career has spanned roles from classroom aide and teacher to special education administrator, providing me with firsthand insight into the diverse needs of students, teachers, and families. My educational background includes a doctorate in education administration, two master’s degrees (business administration and special education), and an undergraduate degree in psychology. Additionally, I have served as an adjunct faculty at two colleges, broadening my understanding of education beyond K-12.

My husband and I owned and operated U-Can, a youth servicing agency that provided before and after school programs, summer youth programs, and youth development initiatives. My work as a case manager for homeless families and youth, along with my role in implementing the Stewart B. McKinney Educational Program for Homeless Families and Youth, deepened my commitment to vulnerable students.

As a mother of four and grandmother, I have a deep, personal investment in the future of education in our community. My grandson is currently attending the local high school, and my granddaughter is enrolled at the community college. My mother, with her strong ties to this community, also lives nearby. My husband, a retired military veteran, local business co-owner, and former college faculty member, and I are both deeply committed to our faith. We trust in God’s guidance as we strive to make a positive impact on our community and its schools. I am confident that my background, knowledge, and commitment to equity will help our school district provide an inclusive, supportive, and high-quality education for all students.
